RECOM’s RACPRO1-RD40, a new cost-effective DIN rail redundancy module, comprises a pair of MOSFETs and their control, configured as high-efficiency gating diodes. This allows RECOM DIN rail AC/DCs to be connected in an n+1 redundant or parallel arrangement for critical applications where power must be maintained, even if an AC/DC goes off-line. In redundancy mode, each module can be used with a load of up to 20A, fed from two AC/DCs, rated at 20A each. In ‘parallel’ mode, the module can supply an output of up to 40A (60A/5s) over an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +70°C with only convection cooling. RD40 modules themselves can be paralleled for even higher currents. Maximum voltage drop for the module is just 140mV, representing an efficiency of up to 99.5% and 5W typical loss. The module is designed for nominal inputs between 12V and 48VDC with a range of 9V to 56VDC and has a reverse output voltage immunity of 63VDC (70VDC peak). The part is certified to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 62368-1 for safety and meets EN 61000-6-4 Class B emissions and EN 61000-6-2 immunity standards. No-load consumption is less than 200mW.
