About us

Reed float switches for mechanical & plant engineering: made in Germany, 4,500+ variants, from batch size 1.

hlm elektronik develops and manufactures reed-based float switches and level sensors for industrial applications. Founded in 1988 and based in Petershagen-Lahde, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the company operates as a specialist manufacturer and produces exclusively in Germany. hlm elektronik has been ISO 9001 certified since 2011.

The focus is on customised solutions for reliable level detection in liquid media. Based on a proven modular system, more than 4,500 variants can be realised – from individual solutions starting at quantity 1 through to large-scale production. Switching points, materials, installation lengths, connections, cables and connectors can be adapted to the specific requirements of each application.

All manufacturing is carried out in-house. This includes, among other processes, soldering and welding, assembly, potting as well as cable processing and cable printing. Thanks to its high level of in-house manufacturing expertise, hlm elektronik can also respond flexibly to special requirements regarding installation space, connections, materials or switching point configurations.

The product portfolio includes miniature float switches with an 8 mm switching tube as well as standard versions with a 12 mm switching tube. Depending on the design, up to four defined switching points are possible. The portfolio is complemented by quasi-analogue level sensors based on a reed chain, enabling changes in liquid level to be detected in stepped measurement values.

A range of materials is available for different media, temperatures and environmental conditions. These include PP, PVC, PVDF, stainless steel 1.4571 and brass. The suitability of each material combination is assessed individually according to the relevant process conditions.

The modular system also offers a wide range of connection options. Depending on the installation situation, different threads, flanges, cable versions or connectors can be used. For applications with increased environmental protection requirements, solutions up to IP67 or IP68 can also be realised depending on the design.

Reed contacts operate without physical contact and, when electrically configured for the respective application, offer a long service life with low maintenance requirements. Particularly where continuous measurement is not required and defined minimum or maximum liquid levels need to be detected reliably, reed-based float switch technology provides a robust and proven solution.

Typical areas of application include:

• Mechanical and plant engineering
• Hydraulic power units
• Temperature control and laboratory equipment
• Pump systems and central lubrication
• Water and wastewater technology
• Tank and vessel construction
• Municipal and special-purpose vehicles
• Agriculture and dairy technology
• Industrial HVAC and building technology

Typical applications include:

• Minimum and maximum level monitoring in tanks and vessels
• Minimum level monitoring and dry-run protection, for example in temperature control units or pump systems
• Overfill protection
• Level monitoring in hydraulic and lubricant reservoirs
• Condensate monitoring in HVAC and building technology
• Liquid level monitoring in mobile machinery and vehicles
• Level monitoring in process and cleaning systems

The appropriate design depends on more than just the required switching point. The medium, temperature, installation position, available space, connection type and electrical requirements all play an important role in selecting the right solution. This is where the technical consultation provided by hlm elektronik comes in: together with the customer, a solution is developed that matches the specific installation situation and application.

Visit us at our trade fair stand and talk to us about your application. Whether it is material selection, installation conditions, connections or switching point configuration, we will work with you to determine which solution is best suited to your project.
